For several years now, having set commissioned work aside, Tatge has chosen
to wander freely through the streets of Italian cities and along the paths of
the countryside, letting his eye — together with his companion, Chance —
determine when to pause his journey.
As Italo Calvino once wrote,
“You walk for days among trees and among stones.
Rarely does the eye light on a thing, and then only when it has recognized
that thing as the sign of something else."
What draws Tatge, then, are often
metaphors: even the humblest subjects, small enigmas that emerge from the
almost therapeutic nature of his photography. His psyche serves as a
mysterious guide. And Italy, deep and diverse, is the land that calls him.
